The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, Kano State Government vow to end new variants of polio virus cases in some local government areas by the end of 2025.

UNICEF Chief also stressed the need for stronger commitment, timely release of funds, and accurate information about vaccination efforts to meet the December 2025 deadline for total eradication.
He urged local government chairpersons to fulfil their responsibilities and ensure the complete eradication of polio in their communities.
“UNICEF, reiterated its commitment to working with the Kano State Government and other stakeholders to eradicate polio and improve children’s survival.”
The Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr Muhammad Nasir Mahmud, explained that the state is ready to eliminate the variant polio virus by December 2025 and has planned an intensive vaccination campaign.
The campaign will start in the Bunkure Local Government Area and will be extended to all 44 local government areas in Kano.
“The northern states will also launch similar vaccination campaigns to meet the eradication goal.” Dr Nasir stated.
