The United States has elected its first Black woman governor, with Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms winning Georgia’s gubernatorial race.
Report says her victory also gives Democrats a win in one of the country’s most closely contested political battlegrounds.
Bottoms, a former Atlanta mayor and senior adviser to ex-President Joe Biden, defeated Republican businessman Rick Jackson.

The victories marked a milestone for Black women in US politics, with Bottoms and Stacey Plaskett becoming the first Black women elected governors of Georgia and the US Virgin Islands.
Bottoms’ victory marks a shift in Georgia politics, where Black voters have helped turn the traditionally Republican state into a key electoral battleground.
