The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has urged graduating students of the Federal Government Girls’ College, Bwari, Abuja, to embrace excellence, integrity and resilience as they prepare for the next phase of their lives.
Speaking at the school’s graduation ceremony, prize-giving ceremony and the launch of the 15th edition of the school magazine, Soaring Star, the Minister, an alumna of the college, encouraged the students to pursue their ambitions with discipline, determination and a strong sense of purpose.
Reflecting on her own journey since graduating from the institution 31 years ago, Sulaiman-Ibrahim urged the students to combine ambition with hard work, perseverance and integrity, noting that success comes to those who remain focused despite challenges.
She encouraged the graduates to regard difficult times as opportunities for growth, innovation and self-development, adding that emerging sectors of the economy offer increasing prospects for young people who are prepared to develop the necessary skills.
The Minister also advised the students to remain steadfast in the face of temptation and adversity, urging them to uphold the values instilled in them by their families and their school.
She encouraged them to strive for excellence in every endeavour, emphasising that they should focus on becoming the best version of themselves rather than comparing themselves with others.
Reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting girls’ education and women’s empowerment, Sulaiman-Ibrahim said sustained investment in quality education, leadership development and equal opportunities remained essential to unlocking the full potential of young women and accelerating national development.
She commended the management of the Federal Government Girls’ College, teachers, parents and guardians for their dedication to nurturing responsible, confident and future-ready young women.
The Minister also congratulated Miss Diogu Esther, who emerged as the overall best graduating student. Esther received a cash prize of ₦1.5 million and a brand-new HP laptop donated personally by the Minister in recognition of her outstanding academic performance.
She described the award as a recognition of excellence, diligence and good character, encouraging the graduating students to remain committed to hard work, humility and lifelong learning as they pursue their future aspirations.
