Women empowerment will engender economic growth – Abia Deputy Governor

The empowerment of women has been identified as a key instrument to economic prosperity in families  and a country.

The Deputy Governor of Abia State Mr. Udo Oko Chukwu made the assertion at a maiden Ngwa Daughters day and empowerment Award ceremony held in Abuja, Nigeria.

 

Organized by the Ngwa Daughters Development Association, the group honored it’s illustrious sons and daughters from the nine local governments that made up Ngwa extraction in Abia State, who contributed to the development of women at the grassroots.

The Abia Deputy Governor commended the group for initiating women empowerment programmes and development.

He gave the assurance that, “the award received will serve as a challenge to me and a new responsibility for to do more to women and community.”

Also Speaking, Former Governor of Zamfara State Senator Ahmed Sani, represented by Senator Bala Adamu identified Igbo community as achievers who believe in industrialization and entrepreneurship development.

He used the occasion to announce his Presidential bid 2023 to run with an Igbo man from the South for balance and fairness.

In a remark, the President General Abia Development Association Mr. Chuks Chigbu stressed the importance of empowering women and youths for community development.

Also, the President of Ngwa Daughters Development Association Mrs Ngozi Ufomba said, “the socio cultural group has the aim of propagating and promoting cultural values of the people, encourage the spirit of community development and to care for widows, orphans and less previleged as well as provide empowerment.”

Former Vice Chancellor Abia State University Professor Uche Eleazar presented a lecture on ‘celebrating women and the role of women in the development of Ngwa land’.
