Governor Dauda Lawal has inaugurated the first Hajj flight from the newly constructed Gusau International Airport, marking a historic milestone for Zamfara State.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Suleiman Bala Idris, he disclosed that the inaugural flight departed the airport with 415 intending pilgrims aboard Max Air flight NGL270 bound for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Idris said the pilgrims comprised 288 men and 127 women.
Speaking during the inaugural flight ceremony, Governor Lawal described the airport as a major legacy project of his administration and expressed satisfaction that pilgrims from the state could now travel directly from Gusau for Hajj operations.

“I am happy today that our pilgrims will be flying directly from Gusau International Airport to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for this year’s pilgrimage.
“Many doubted that this would become a reality, but today it has. We began the construction of this international airport on June 18, 2024.
“I cannot fully express how happy I am.” Governor Lawal stated.
The Governor noted that the development would ease the burden previously faced by pilgrims who had to travel to Sokoto or Kano before boarding flights to Saudi Arabia.
“To our intending pilgrims, this is a great opportunity to travel comfortably. In less than four hours, they will arrive in Saudi Arabia. Previously, our pilgrims had to travel to Sokoto or Kano before they could fly for Hajj.
“Words cannot fully express my happiness, but I will say that this is a historic milestone and a fulfilment of our campaign promises.
“I am committed to doing even more for our dear state.
“I thank the people for their prayers and trust in us. This is just the beginning.
“We have already begun discussions with airlines that will operate commercial flights from Gusau International Airport,” he stressed.
Governor Lawal wished the intending pilgrims a successful journey and pilgrimage and urged them to pray for Zamfara State and Nigeria.
