The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has introduced body cameras, drone technology and 24-hour WhatsApp tip lines as part of efforts to modernise policing, strengthen accountability and improve public access to police services.
The police said the new technologies would enhance crime prevention by enabling faster information sharing and more efficient reporting of incidents.
According to the ZRP, body cameras will record police interactions with the public, while drones will support crowd monitoring, surveillance and search operations.
The force has also launched digital reporting channels, allowing members of the public to report crimes and provide information without visiting police stations.
Residents have welcomed the initiative, particularly the introduction of the 24-hour WhatsApp tip lines for reporting crimes and requesting emergency assistance.
Many said the service makes it easier to report incidents and seek help promptly, reducing the need for physical visits to police stations during emergencies.
