President Mnangagwa Highlights Economic Gains in Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwean President, Emmerson Mnangagwa has highlighted gains in currency stability, agriculture and mining as he delivered the State of the Nation Address at the opening of the fourth session of the country’s 10th Parliament.

President Mnangagwa addressed Parliament in Mount Hampden, about 19 kilometres from the capital, Harare, where he said; “stronger foreign-currency inflows and reforms in the financial sector had helped consolidate exchange-rate stability and strengthen confidence in the economy.”

He said; “Zimbabwe’s economy grew by 8.3 per cent in 2025, with agriculture expanding by 27.9 per cent and contributing 2.2 percentage points to overall growth.”

Warning
However, President Mnangagwa warned that the 2026-2027 agricultural season could face below-normal rainfall across the region, posing a risk to food production.

To mitigate the impact of drought, he said; “the government had introduced a six-pillar resilience plan covering an expanded strategic grain reserve, climate-smart agriculture, integrated financing, livestock support, early-warning systems and capacity building.”

The President also identified mining as a key driver of Zimbabwe’s economy, saying the government was promoting mineral exploration and greater local processing.

He highlighted the production of Zimbabwe’s first locally produced lithium sulphate and said additional processing plants were under construction.

President Mnangagwa added that expansion in gold, platinum, iron and steel production was contributing to the transformation of the country’s industrial base.
