2027: APC to Leverage Tinubu’s Achievements in Campaign

By: Mnena Iyorkegh, Abuja

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) will campaign on the economic reforms and development initiatives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to secure a renewed mandate in the 2027 general elections.

The Information Minister disclosed this in Mina, Niger State, during the inauguration of the APC Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.

Idris also noted that the party would rely on the performance of the Nigerian Government and APC-led state governments to convince Nigerians to support its candidates at the polls.

According to him, the APC intends to make the achievements of its elected officials the centrepiece of its campaign, expressing confidence that the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration would strengthen the party’s appeal to voters.

“The truth of the matter is that the Nigerian economy and the Nigerian people have been transformed by the administration of the APC under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. And we are going to campaign on the records that the President has made in the last three and a half years,” Idris said.

He explained that the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda was designed to address longstanding structural challenges, improve public finances, attract investment and expand critical infrastructure.

The minister stressed that the reforms introduced by the Federal Government were aimed at correcting economic distortions and establishing a foundation for sustainable growth.

He said that the APC would highlight ongoing development initiatives and the policies pursued by its governors across the country as part of its efforts to secure victory in 2027.

Idris described the APC as the party to beat in the next general elections, insisting that its record in government would provide a strong basis for seeking another mandate from Nigerians.

He also expressed satisfaction with his appointment to serve on both the Presidential Campaign Council and the Niger State Governorship Campaign Council.

The minister commended Bago for his efforts to strengthen the party’s structures and mobilise political stakeholders in Niger State, describing his dual responsibility as an opportunity to contribute to the APC’s preparations for the elections.

Meanwhile, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago said the APC in Niger State is targeting more than two million votes for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The Governor also said the party would intensify grassroots mobilisation to achieve its objective.

He explained that the mobilisation strategy would cover polling units, wards, local government areas and the state level, with party officials, political appointees and other stakeholders expected to play active roles.

Governor Bago disclosed that the political network supporting the campaign had grown to more than 100,000 members over the years, describing the structure as a strong platform for the party’s electoral mobilisation.

“If everybody would bring their own votes, it would give us more than one million votes. But our target is beyond that. The ambition this time around is to bring out over two million votes, and by the grace of God, we will do that,” he said.

He noted that the party would intensify its mobilisation efforts to translate its grassroots structures into votes during the elections.

The Governor also announced that the APC North Central Presidential Campaign Office in Minna would be commissioned the following week.

According to Bago, the commissioning could be attended by President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives or the APC National Chairman.

The inauguration attracted APC leaders, political officeholders and other stakeholders from across Niger State, marking the commencement of efforts to coordinate the party’s presidential and governorship campaign structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
