The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for renominating Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Governor Zulum described the decision as “a source of pride for Borno State and the entire Northern Nigeria.”
Speaking with Journalists on Thursday after a thank-you visit to the President at the State House, Abuja, the Governor said he was at the Presidential Villa to convey the gratitude of the people of Borno and seek the President’s approval for a delegation of Governors and representatives from the North-East to pay him a formal appreciation visit.
He said that President Tinubu had granted the request, stressing that Governors from the six North-East states would visit the President next week.
Governor Zulum said,; “the delegation would use the visit to express appreciation on behalf of the Governors and people of the North-East for the confidence reposed in Vice President Kashim Shettima.”
Reflecting on the significance of the nomination, he described it as a historic milestone, noting that it marks the first time a son of Borno State has been renominated to serve as Nigeria’s Vice President.
The Governor recalled that although a similar opportunity almost materialised during the era of Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, it did not come to fruition.
