The Social Democratic Party, SDP presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo has called on Nigerian media organisations to provide fair and balanced coverage of political parties and their candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.
He made the call at a dinner with journalists in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, stressing the importance of independent, impartial and responsible reporting in the electoral process.
Adebayo said equitable coverage would enable voters to access diverse political viewpoints and make informed choices.
He urged media organisations to give attention to issues including insecurity, poverty, corruption and democratic governance, while allowing competing political interests to present their positions.

He also cautioned against coverage patterns that could create the impression that only a few candidates were relevant in the presidential election.
The SDP presidential candidate called on media organisations to ensure that commercial interests did not undermine fair reporting of political parties and their programmes.
Adebayo said the media and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria’s electoral management body, had important roles to play in supporting credible elections.
He urged political parties to present clear policy proposals and called on the media to provide platforms for public scrutiny of their manifestos.
He said the policy vision associated with his political campaign prioritised the security and welfare of Nigerians.
He also said his 2027 policy document, Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity, had been published in English, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and other languages to broaden access to its proposals.
