The Nasarawa North Political Consultative Forum has finalized a strategic political roadmap for the zone, officially recommending that Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area produce the next Governor of Nasarawa State in 2027.

The decision was reached during the forum’s 4th consultative meeting held in the Akwanga local government area of the state.

The high-level gathering, chaired by Senator John M. Danboyi with Professor Salih A. Alizaga serving as Secretary, focused on restoring the zone’s political bargaining power through unity and a structured zoning formula.

According to Danboyi, “the Nasarawa Eggon Mandate is a significant move to ensure fairness, justice, and equity. The Forum resolved that Nasarawa Eggon LGA should be given the priority to complete the term of the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki”.

This follows the vacancy recently declared by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Beyond the immediate bye-election, the forum reaffirmed its December 2025 stance, insisting that the 2027 governorship seat must be occupied by a candidate from Nasarawa Eggon.

He said that to ensure a balanced distribution of political offices within the senatorial district, the forum also approved a zoning arrangement for other key legislative seats.

“Senate (2027): The Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat has been zoned to Akwanga Local Government Area, House of Representatives (2027): The seat for the federal constituency was zoned to Wamba Local Government Area, respectively.”

The communiqué expressed deep concern over the persistent lack of unity and growing mistrust among stakeholders in the zone.

However, the leaders warned that internal fragmentation has historically led to reduced influence at both state and national levels, resulting in missed opportunities for the region.

“The Forum calls for a renewed commitment to unity, trust-building, and inclusiveness,” the statement said.

The resolution marks a decisive step by the Nasarawa North elders to present a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling to the rest of the state that the zone is ready to negotiate its interests from a position of collective strength.
