The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that the long-delayed Apo-Karshi road will be completed and inaugurated by November, bringing an end to years of waiting for the critical road project.
Wike gave the assurance in Abuja on Saturday after inspecting the progress of work on the Apo-Karshi road and the 14-kilometre Bwari-Kubwa road.
The minister said the 13.5-kilometre Apo-Karshi road, first awarded more than a decade ago, had remained a major source of frustration for residents and motorists who regularly endure traffic congestion along the route linking satellite communities with the city centre.
He said the FCT Administration had to terminate the original contract because of prolonged delays and re-award it to SCC Nigeria Ltd, which he said had the capacity to complete the project.
“The Apo-Karshi road has been a topical issue. It was awarded in 2010, one of those projects President Bola Tinubu inherited.
“Because of its importance and the complaints by residents, we had to terminate the contract and award it to SCC, which we know has the capacity to complete the job.
“Residents who have been crying for years can now see that this government has come to their aid,” he said.
Wike commended the contractor for sustaining work on the project, despite challenges associated with funding, and assured the company that the FCT Administration would meet its financial obligations.

The minister also inspected the ongoing construction of the 14-kilometre Bwari-Kubwa road, which he said was expected to be completed by December.
He stressed that the delivery of infrastructure remained one of the strongest indicators of effective governance, saying the impact of completed projects on residents was more important than political rhetoric.
“When people ask me about campaigns, I say, ‘What is a campaign? See the campaign. A campaign is about what you have done for the people and what the government has to show.
“It is not about promises; it is about taking action that positively impacts lives,” he said.
Wike expressed confidence that the FCT Administration would exceed its initial target of 10 projects scheduled for inauguration, with several major road and infrastructure projects nearing completion across the territory.
