President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the responsibilities of governance will not be compromised by political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasising that the country requires greater attention to pressing national priorities now than ever before.
The President gave the assurance on Wednesday while inaugurating the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, where he emphasised that the demands of his office must take precedence over extensive participation in campaign activities.
President Tinubu maintained that the responsibility of leading the country remains continuous, regardless of the political calendar, noting that he would devote substantial attention to governance while allowing party leaders and campaign officials to coordinate electoral activities nationwide.
“The responsibility of this office does not pause,” the President declared.
He explained that although he would remain actively involved in communicating his administration’s achievements and development agenda to Nigerians, he would not accompany the Campaign Council to every political engagement across the country.
“However, I will still make time to speak directly with Nigerians, even as you lead the campaign in the states and local government areas. So you will excuse me from going everywhere with you. We have bills to pay,” President Tinubu stated.
The President further declared the APC’s readiness for the 2027 electoral contest, describing the inauguration of the Campaign Council as more than a ceremonial exercise but a renewal of the party’s commitment to Nigerians and its responsibilities as the governing party.
“The APC is ready. We have not gathered merely to inaugurate a council. We have gathered to renew a covenant, a covenant with Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party. We promise we will not let them down,” he said.
President Tinubu also charged members of the Council to take the party’s vision, record of achievements and development priorities to Nigerians across the country, ensuring that its message reaches communities and wards nationwide.
