2027 : Sultan Urges Political Parties to Prioritise Peaceful Campaigns

By Temitope Mustapha, Abuja

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged political parties and their candidates to prioritise peace, exercise restraint and conduct their campaigns responsibly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also called on Nigerians to demonstrate a collective commitment to preserving national peace, unity and stability.

The Sultan made the appeal on Thursday while speaking to State House correspondents following a private meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the His Eminence emphasised the responsibility of political leaders and stakeholders to promote peaceful engagement, exercise restraint and avoid actions capable of undermining national cohesion.

“We need peaceful campaigns by everybody, and we pray to Almighty Allah to grant us peace and stability in our country as we go in for elections,” he said.

He expressed hope that the electoral process would produce leaders capable of advancing the country’s interests and improving the well-being of Nigerians.

“May He Almighty give us the best we deserve in this country,” the Sultan added.

The appeal comes as political parties and their candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with consultations and political activities expected to increase nationwide.
