The Abuja Municipal Council Area AMAC has presented the sum of N10,087,228,268 billion naira for the 2021 fiscal year which is 10. 94% higher than the previous estimate.
Presenting the budget at the Council chamber in Abuja Nigeria’s Capital, the AMAC Chairman Mr. Abdullahi Candido said the 2021 budget is tagged the ‘Budget of Resilience’ and is designed to meet yearnings of the people.
He said “Inspite the setbacks experienced in 2020, occasioned by Covid-19 pandemic and other challenges which has adversely affected our delivery, we have resolved to re-position ourselves for quick recovery and to reinvigorate our roadmap of rural transformation”.
According Mr. Candido, “we are committed to employing every available avenue to increasing our revenue profile as well as strategising on strengthening our innovative Financial/Economic Institutions so as to actualize our vision for sustainable Council”.
The AMAC Chairman noted that the 2021 budget proposal is a product of collaborative efforts of relevant stakeholders who provided the template taking into cognisance the growing needs of communities and various requests of departments in the council.
The budget estimate has “underlying assumptions: Net statutory allocation = N6,287,228.268.00, AMAC IGR= 3,300,000.000.00, FCT IGR 10%= 1,589,000,000.00 and Term Loan= 500,000.000.00”. Mr. Candido explained.
According to him, Capital Expenditure will have 56.67%, Personnel cost is projected to rise by 4.3% as a result of staff promotion and proposed minimum wage with Overhead cost increasing to 1.33%.
Mr. Candido noted that the council has inherited liabilities of 2.6 billion naira when he took over in 2016 but was able to reduce the burden to 1.6 billion naira with a promise to reduce more before the end of his tenure.
He promised to continue with infrastructural development across the twelve wards of the council.
Receiving the budget, Speaker Abuja Municipal Council Area AMAC Mr. Isah Bauche said “the budget will be looked in to for the benefit of AMAC residents”.
He promised to pass the budget on time in order to meet the aspirations of the people.
