The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, has inspected newly established formations and units in Oyo and Osun States to assess their operational readiness and ensure a smooth take-off.
Mahmuda conducted the inspection on October 1, visiting the newly established Headquarters 7 Brigade in Oyo, Oyo State, and 137 Battalion in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

A statement by the Acting Deputy Director, 2 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, said the GOC urged troops to remain disciplined, professional and proactive in carrying out their duties.

He warned against unprofessional conduct and urged personnel to uphold the image and reputation of the Nigerian Army, in line with the expectations of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.
The GOC also called for strong civil-military relations between the troops and their host communities.

He said the establishment of the new formations was part of the COAS’ efforts to strengthen the Army’s presence and improve its capacity to respond to emerging security challenges.
Mahmuda further highlighted ongoing efforts to improve soldiers’ welfare under the COAS’ Soldiers First concept, urging personnel to reciprocate by remaining committed to their responsibilities and denying criminal elements freedom of action.

The visit was also aimed at assessing the new locations and ensuring that deployed troops settle in and effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
In Ile-Ife, community leaders led by Sooko Adegboyega Ogunwusi, Sooko Laukun of Ife, thanked the Nigerian Army for establishing 137 Battalion in the town and commended the COAS and GOC for the initiative.
