The National Agricultural Land Development Authority NALDA says it is set to empower about 2,000 fish farmers and commence the training of 1,040 soil scientists in Borno State, North East Nigeria.

Executive Secretary of NALDA Prince Paul Ikonne made the disclosure at a media briefing in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital after a meeting with the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.

“Borno State has submitted their complete list and has provided the locations. Contractors are already at the site and in the 10 locations for the project.

The governor of Borno state has fully keyed into Mr President’s idea of achieving food security irrespective of the challenges the state is encountering. The governor is making it easier for NALDA to function and for farmers to be at home while farming”, he said.

He said the training will be flagged off in Borno State on March 1, 2021, adding that the state governor has provided the list of all the young graduates that would benefit from the programme and has also made all necessary contributions towards its success.

The NALDA boss said the agency was focusing on everything in the entire agric chain in the state because the state has good infrastructure in place such as machineries, equipment and processing mill.

“We have an understanding with the Borno State Government to increase the capacity of their feed processing mill outside the branded bags that they’re producing for NALDA to package the finished products”, he added.
