The Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG Zone 7, Kayode Egbetokun has charged Police Strategic Managers to provide adequate Security for the Forthcoming Election and brace up for the task ahead.
AIG Egbetokun gave the charge while on a working visit to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command,” there’s room for improvement. Modern Policing is Intelligence led Community-based and technology-driven. We must therefore work harder to enhance intelligence capacity,” he said.
Mr. Egbetokun said that the Inspector-General of Police IGP Usman Alkali organised a workshop in all the Six Geo-Political Zones on Election Security Management. The calendar and schedule of the activities of the electoral process in Nigeria can be divided into the Pre-election, during election and post elections periods.
The Nigerian Police has been the lead Agency in Election Security Management as stipulated in the relevant section of the Electoral Act 2020. The Force has the mandate to provide security throughout the entire electoral process. It is also on the note of a disciplined Force, “we all must key into the Policing trust fund of the IGP Alkali to guarantee a hitch-free general election. We must ensure that crime and criminality are reduced to the barest minimum.” AIG stressed
The AIG lamented the need to maintain the Stop and Search Policy of the Nigeria Police Force which has proven to be effective in tackling crime in Nigeria.
He said there have been several times when officers and men of the Force on Stop and Search duty intercepted stolen goods and rescued kidnap victims.
The AIG also said despite the complaint against the Operation the benefits of having Stop and Search duty cannot be over emphasised.
The Commissioner of Police FCT C.P Sadiq Abubakar while speaking said the command will continue to solidify the measures put in place to secure the territory.
C.P Abubakar hinted that the Federal Capital Territory Administration recently supported the Command with twenty brand new operational vehicles fitted with communication gadgets and must reciprocate the gesture by discharging out duties, professionally and responsibly and Scaling up service delivery.
“I hereby restate the unalloyed dedication of myself and my team to ensuring that the impact of the policies and operational directives of the AIG and by extension the IGP is vigorously pursued within the command for the achievement of the Policing mandate of the Nigeria Police Force “.
The Commissioner added that since his resumption as Commissioner of Police FCT, several armed robbers have been arrested with exhibits recovered.
