FCT: Voting ongoing in Kwali Area Council

Voting is ongoing in the Kwali Area Council of Federal Capital Territory FCT for the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Eligible voters in their numbers came out to vote for candidates of their choice who will lead in various positions of authority.

A visit by correspondent Salihu Ali revealed that Anguwan Hakimi 2 polling unit 058, has the records of 552 registered voters.

According to the Presiding officer Mr Joshua Emmanuel, there was no challenge with election materials and the voters conducted themselves orderly.

At polling unit 002 Kwali Central, the presiding officer, Mr Moses Olayemi said, the unit has 981 registered voters and the election materials are complete.

An election observer from Mission for Education, Social and Health MESH, Mr Isah Aguye in an interview expressed satisfaction with arrangements made by INEC in decongesting some crowded polling units which made the process easy for voters.

Some Voters Mr Yusuf Terah, Madam Celestine and Mr Donald Terah who spoke in an interview said that the process was seamless and hitch-free an indication that their votes will count.

Kuje Area Council

Meanwhile, the elections in Kuje area council, an area council in Nigeria’s Federal capital Abuja started on a slow note as many voters turned up in their numbers to their various polling units as early as 7 am for an election process that was to start at 8:30 am. however as at 10a; am

The staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission  INEC had not arrived at most of the Polling units visited.

By past ten some of the INEC staff and security agents started to arrive at the various polling units with sensitive election materials. They proceeded to set up their equipment and the accreditation process is still ongoing at some polling units while in some voting has commenced.

There were some setbacks witnessed as at one of the polling units 003 in Kuje ward the presiding officer complained about the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System BVAS malfunctioning.

Voter turnout was quite impressive and the security agents were seen carrying out their tasks effectively by maintaining law and order.

There have been no cases of any incidences which go against the electoral law.

Lifecamp

Likewise, voting commenced at Water and Sewage area at Lifecamp extension in Abuja.

In lifecamp extension, there is an influx of voters, accreditation and heavy security patrol as voting is going on peacefully and accordingly.

While some of the voters interviewed expressed satisfaction with the process, others did complain of the slow accreditation in some parts.

A first-time voter in Nigeria, Aliro Douglas when interviewed, said she was determined to vote because she believes her vote matters and as a citizen, it is her civil right. She has hope that whoever emerges the winner deserves it.

Another polling unit visited next at lifecamp extension as sell, Polling Unit 225, at Berger clinic, also had a great turnout and most people waited patiently for their turn as they observed those ahead of themselves keenly.

Overall, there seems to be no problem and people are on their best behaviour.
