Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Kalu, has formally declared his intention to run for the Senate Presidency when the 10th National Assembly is inaugurated in June this year.
Senator Kalu announced this on Tuesday during an interactive session with Journalists shortly before the Lawmakers reconvened in plenary for the first time since the Governorship and state Assembly elections.
He believes that the Senate Presidency should be expressly assigned to a Christian southeast Senator with vast experience, stressing that as the most ranking Senator of Igbo extraction, he remains the best and most suited candidate for the position.
According to Senator Kalu, “now that we have a President-elect and his Deputy from the Muslim faith, it is only fair to have a Senate President of the Christian faith so as to ensure a balance in the system”.
