National Population Commission promises credible census, seeks stakeholders support

The Chairman of National Population Commission in Nigeria, Mr. Nasir Kwarra, has appealed to Nigerians to avail themselves for counting during the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census.

The Chairman of the Commission said the 2023 Census scheduled to hold between May 3rd and 7th is a national event and that the exercise would help the country generate accurate data for national planning and development.

Mr. Kwarra added that a lot of resources and efforts had been invested to ensure that the exercise is credible and successful.

The chairman, who was represented by his Special Assistant, Husaini Isiyaku, made the statement at a workshop held for social media influencers and bloggers in the country in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.

He said, “Census is a national event” and it is “the responsibility of every citizen to participate by presenting themselves to be counted.”

He noted that the commission needs the support of all stakeholders to deliver credible and reliable census for the country to generate data for sustainable development planning.

He reiterated that “Over the years, the Commission has invested considerable time and resources in planning for the census by drawing from its rich institutional experience to give the nation a digital and scientific census that will generate data for planning within the context of present realities.”

He stated that the commission has not stopped engaging in activities that would ensure the exercise is successful.

In addition, he said that “the Commission has developed a Census Strategic Plan and Implementation Strategy detailing a whole range of activities to be carried out in the pre-census, actual census and post-census stages.”

The Commission, he said has made significant progress in preparation for the census.
