The All Progressive Congress ,APC, has directed its legal team to seek redress against the declaration of New Nigeria People Party ,NNPP, governorship candidate and governor-elect, Alhaji Abba Kabiru Yusuf, as the winner of the 18th March gubernatorial election in Kano.

The party spokesperson, Ahmed Aruwa said, though the APC Governoship candidate Nasiru Gawuna has congratulated the governor-elect, on the contrary, the APC is of the strong conviction that the declaration by INEC is in violation of the laid down electoral laws, which prompted the decision by APC to proceed in search for legal redress before the court with competent jurisdictions.

Kano APC faults the results declared by INEC, which confirmed the candidate of the NNPP as the winner of the governorship polls,” he said.

According to him, the declaration of the winner of the elections as announced by INEC contravenes the provisions of the laws regulating the overall conduct of the elections.

Mr, Aruwa then alleged that INEC had acted in contrast to the provisions of the electoral rules by declaring Abba Gida Gida as he is fondly known as the governor-elect of the State.

The state party hierarchy has directed its legal organ to proceed to challenge the outcome of the elections before the state governorship election petition tribunal sitting at Miller road court complex INEC,” he added.

The registry for petitions had been opened for all intrested parties.

In a reaction, the Chairman Transition committe of the ,New Nigeria Peoples Party, Dr. Bappa Bichi said the petition which is coming against the NNPP is a welcome development as it’s part of the ingredients of democracy

It is okay, this is democracy. If you are not happy with outcomes, your are free to approach the court,” he said.
