SON Moves To Boost Trade And Investment In Nigeria

The Standard Organisation of Nigeria, (SON) says it has almost completed the  National Metrology Institute which would facilitate trade and investment in Nigeria.

The Organisation said the Institute would serve Nigeria and West Africa in primary standards of measurement and accuracy as well as carry out field calibrations and calibration of measuring instruments in Industry.

The Director-General of (SON), Mr Farouk Salim said this during the Annual Conference of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry Correspondent in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

While speaking on the sub-theme; “The Role of Standardization in Building Resilient Non-Oil Sector,” he explained that the organisation is poised to facilitate trade and investment in Nigeria to improve life through Standards.

Mr Salim said; “To encourage local Manufacturers, prospective Investors and Importers of Goods into Nigeria and protect their investments, SON has put in place various standardisation products.

“They include the provision of required Standards, Product & Systems Certification, Registration, Accredited Laboratory Testing, Metrology Services, & Human Capacity Building etc.”

He stated that the Organisation also established Product Certification For Export to regulate standards for export.

Mr Salim said, “This involves activities relating to the issuance of Certificates of Conformance to applicable standards or contractual documents for products to facilitate export trade.

“It applies to specific consignments meant for export by the applicant to ensure that all locally manufactured products meant for export conform to the relevant quality requirements of the importing countries and destination markets.”

He was represented at the event by the Assistant Director of Public Relations of the Organisation, Mrs Mariam Samson.
