The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on Monday, inaugurated a new security architecture with the name, “Nnewi Concerned Citizens Vigilante”, in Nnewi Anambra State.
The initiative was championed by the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District and indigene of the town, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah and other concerned citizens of Nnewi.
They also equipped over seven hundred personnel of the outfit with high-tech gadgets, the personnel of the outfit were drawn from the four quarters of Nnewi.
It is aimed at improving the security of life and property of the people which is in line with the top priority of the current administration.
Speaking at the event, the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo represented by the Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Chief Chikaodi Anara, expressed his gratitude to Senator Ubah and other partners for their patriotism and love for humanity.
The Governor emphasized that taking Anambra State to the next level, requires the contribution of everyone and assured that all the necessary support will be provided by the state government.
For his part, Senator Ubah commended the security personnel for availing themselves to work for the betterment of the people.
He highlighted some of the facilities put in place to secure Nnewi to include solar street lights with close circuit television, CCTV cameras that are mounted in Nnewi, a control room with over thirty televisions, over seven hundred walkie-talkies provided to all the vigilantes, machetes, torchlight, good remuneration packages, insurance to the personnel, among others.
Senator Ubah urged them to always be active, conscious and dedicated to their duties so that crime and insecurity will be a thing of the past in the metropolis in the nearest time.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi (Rtd.) appreciated Senator Ubah for all the good things he has been doing in Nnewi town and the entire Anambra South Senatorial Zone.
Chiobi emphasized that Nnewi has always been the first among the towns with innovations and development and asked God to continue to protect and strengthen the Senator to do more good things.
He also encouraged the security personnel to remain dedicated to their duties so that crime can be curbed in the zone.
The high point of the event was the presentation of two Hilux Toyota, twelve Sienna minibus vehicles and forty motorcycles to the general commander and field Marshal, quarter commanders and unit commanders of the security outfit.
