Catholic cleric calls for more efforts in fighting insecurity

The Nigerian government has been called to device a stronger means of fighting the insecurity situation in the country.

The Archbishop of the metropolitan see of Lagos, Reverend Alfred Adewale Martins made the call during a priestly ordination of four Reverend Fathers in St Leo Catholic Church Lagos.

Reverend Martins decried the killing of farmers in their farmlands and series of kidnappings in the country, saying it is a way of impoverishing the country.

“When we have people kidnapped in their homes, on the streets and in the farm, how will development come in? It then means there’s no one that is safe in the country anymore. Government should try a different means in tackling this ugly trend. It seems the best hasn’t been good enough,” he said.

New Opportunities
Speaking in the state of the economy, the clergy called for new opportunities and environment to help the citizens grow their businesses.

“The economic situation in the country is really frightening. The economy has gone below expectation. So many people are suffering. There is hunger in the land. Something needs to be done to alleviate sufferings,” he stated.

He urged the newly ordained priests to continue to be faithful in what they were called to be especially in ensuring that youths are directed aright in a way they will remain faithful in God and His work and in helping to spread messages of peace amongst religion.
