Kebbi State Governor reaffirms support for Community policing

The Kebbi State Governor, Abubakar Bagudu, says his administration will continue to support security agencies for the effective discharge of their operations and protection of lives and property across the State.

Governor Bagudu affirmed the commitment at a Community Policing Sensitisation Awareness Campaign in Birnin Kebbi.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Babale Yauri, the Governor acknowledged the contribution of police and other security agencies to the maintenance of peace, law and order which has been adjudged the most peaceful state in the country.

He said; ”The Kebbi State government will continue to provide security agencies adequate logistics, material and financial backing for optimal performance in the discharge of their duties.”

The Governor directed traditional rulers and community leaders to provide an enabling environment to security agencies on intelligence gathering, movement of strange persons in their domain as proactive measures in security maintenance. 

Governor Bagudu commended stakeholders of community policing in the state for working in consonance with dictates of law and order, urging them to maintain the tempo.

In a paper presented on community policing, former Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Salihu Hashimu Argungu (mni) traced the history of community policing in the society which has been embedded in the scriptures of Islam and Christianity since the creation of human kind.

Argungu advised leaders and authorities concerned to ensuring that recruitment, promotion, discipline, remuneration were done within the confines of law and order devoid of godfatherism, incompetence, as well as provides modern working tools to the police for effective operations.

He advocated synergy among all security agencies, to enhance information gathering and public enlightenment of community policing.

Argungu enjoined  ”policy makers to incorporate the methods of our forefathers and system for vibrancy and efficiency.”

The State Commissioner of Police who has just been promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Mr. Ogunbiyade Oluyemi, commended Governor Bagudu and the Inspector General of Police for supporting security agencies in the state.

He assured the State that ”the Police would continue to perform their best towards ensuring the state remained most peaceful in the country.”

Oluyemi also thanked the people of Kebbi State for their support and encouragement to security agencies which facilitated the execution of the job.

The AIG expressed appreciation to the Government for its congratulatory message through the SSG on his recent promotion to Assistant Inspector General of Police.
