1000 communities to get potable drinking water before 2023 in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has said over 1000 communities will benefits with portable drinking water before the end of his tenure by 2023 across 23 local government areas of the State.
Tambuwal stated that at the official commissioning of Bado-Kadarawa 3rd Phase of National Urban Water Supply.
He said Water supply was indeed cardinal to the overall development drive of his Administration, considering that the availability of and access to clean, drinking water was pivotal to all the facets of life of the people.
According to him, effecient water supply was also a major prerequisite for industrial and economic development of any state or nation.
“It is in line with this realization that the Sokoto State Government has been making deliberate efforts to ensure the availability of adequate potable water to the people, as a top priority over the past six years,
“Our commitment to water supply is demonstrated in our annual budgetary allocation of suffecent finds for the water supply sector in both rural and urban areas,” he said.
Tambuwal added that the project commitment was signed with the Minister of Water Resources on collaboration for the implementation of the World Bank Assisted Project.
He explained that the project was to develop the Water Supply Master Plan and Investment Plan for the State and to also development a detailed customer database, billing soft-ware and improved revenue collection.
” It is in view of this that we recommended the rehabilitation of this Bado-Kasarawa Water Supply facility to serve as a pilot scheme,” Tambuwal added.
He said the benefiting communities from this project include Bado Housing Estate, Bado Hanya, Badon Eka part of Badon Barade and Kasarawa Village.
Governor Tambuwal promised to provide over 1000 communities with portable drinking water before the end of his administration by 2023.
He expressed appreciation of the State to federal Ministry of Water Resources and the World Bank for their efforts in ensuring the actualisation of the project.
He also commended the State Ministry of Water Resources for their commitment to the success of this project and other water supply efforts of the Government in the state.
Governor Tambuwal adviced the benefiting communities to take ownership of the facility by ensuring it’s proper utilization and Protection against misuse or vandalisation.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Water Resources in the State, Umar Bature, commended Governor Tambuwal on his commitments towards provision of portable drinking water in the state.
He explained that Tambuwal administration had executed numerous water projects to expand effective supply in the State.
The Commissioner charged the benefiting communities to maintain the project and settled their water bills as at when due.
