Chartered Institute of Development and Social Studies inducts 47 as fellows

The Charted Institute of Development and Social Studies has inducted 47 Nigerians as fellows of the institute.

The new fellows were inducted in Abuja, Nigeria on Thursday.

At the induction ceremony, the Chairman and board of trustees of the institute Dr. Shae Bebeyi, urged the new inductees to be worthy ambassadors of the noble institute.

” It is my honour to congratulate you all today for achieving this feat and subscribing to be worthy ambassadors of this noble institute, to whom much is giving much is equally expected,” Dr Bebeyi.

He urged them to from this moment join the vanguard for a better society anchored on meaningful and deliberate socio-development endeavours.

A guest speaker and one of the newly inducted fellow, Professor Binbol Latur, presented a paper titled; Economic Meltdown and the rise in unemployment rate in Nigeria.

Professor Latur attributed the rise in unemployment in Nigeria to neglect of agricultural sector, rural-urban migration, corruption with its attendant grave embezzlement, rapid population growth which has led to high rate of crime in the country and economic meltdown.

He therefore urged the Nigerian government to urgently address this issue by beefing up security across the country to enable farmer return to their farmlands for agricultural activities.

“Why won’t there be recession when farmers can no longer go to the farms to cultivate the land for the fear of being kidnapped, it is high time government address this issue of insecurity to enable farmers carry out their farming activities else we continue to experience recession,” he said.

Another inductee, Mrs Victoria Jagboro, Provost College of Education Technical in Kogi State central Nigeria believes that sending children to study vocational courses in technical schools is one major way of addressing employment issue in  Nigeria as the students equip themselves with skills upon graduation from schools.

“Students who go to technical colleges graduate to be masters of themselves, this is because they are taught certain skills on how to be on their own after graduation, it’s for this reason that we encourage parents to send their wards to acquire skills in technical colleges where they are being taught how to be self reliant after school.

Some of the newly inducted fellow of the Chartered Institute of Development and Social Studies are Dr. David Nyomo, Mr Samuel Adetunji, Mrs Simo Watson as well as Bitrus Kozah of Voice of Nigeria.

It was the Institute’s second induction ceremony for new members.
