The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commissioned a 330/132/33kV transmission substation in Bauchi State to boost electricity access and reliability in Nigeria’s Northeast.

According to a statement by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the project, which began in February 2022, is expected to be completed within 12 months and will add 250MW to the national grid.

Mbah said the substation comprises 2x150MVA power transformers, a 1x75MVA reactor, and other key components. It currently feeds the existing Bauchi 132/33kV substation, with power supply to be extended to other substations in due course.

“Two new transmission towers were also erected as part of the project to further boost network flexibility,” she noted.

She explained that the substation is part of a joint initiative between TCN and the World Bank aimed at enhancing electricity supply in Bauchi and across the Northeast, primarily benefitting customers within the Jos Electricity Distribution Company network.

This development, she added, “underscores TCN’s commitment to expanding the transmission grid and improving electricity infrastructure nationwide.”
