The Senate has fixed 18 and 19 July as new dates for the North West zonal public hearing on the ongoing constitutional review exercise.
Public hearings for the exercise had earlier been conducted across the other five geo-political zones on 4 and 5 July.
The North West session, initially scheduled to take place in Kano, was suspended during last Tuesday’s plenary as a mark of respect for the late Aminu Dantata, who died in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, 28 June 2025, and was buried in Madina, Saudi Arabia, on Monday, 30 June.
The new dates were announced during Wednesday’s plenary by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Constitution Review.
Presiding over the session, Senator Barau urged all senators representing the 21 senatorial districts in the zone to mobilise their constituents for the event, stressing the importance of public input in the exercise.
“All stakeholders in the North West should submit memoranda on desired constitutional amendments, and fully participate in the hearing to ensure their voices are reflected in the review process.” he added.
