MNJTF, Cameroon Military Pledge Stronger Collaboration

The Force Commander(FC) Multinational Joint Task Force MNJTF Major General Godwin Mutkut and the 4th Joint Military Region of Cameroon Armed Forces Major General Saleh Mahamadou have pledged to conduct a robust collaboration to decisively counter insecurity in the Lake Chad Basin. 

A statement by the Chief Military Public Information Officer MNJTF N’Djamena Chad, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba said the pledge was made during a strategic operational visit by the Force Commander to the headquarters of Operation Emergence 4. 

Major General Mutkut reiterated that the MNJTF and Operation Emergence 4 have a common enemy in Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists who have plagued the region for over 15 years draining resources and causing widespread loss of lives and properties. 

Accordingly, he came to see the Commander Emergence 4 eye to eye to share insights, address challenges and to forge a joint coordinated strategy to overcome the region’s security threats 

Major General Mutkut highlighted that the renewed synergy will extend beyond MNJTF and Operation Emergence 4, encompassing all stakeholders dedicated to securing the Lake Chad Basin.

He called for continued support from the Troop Contributing Counties to strengthen the mission

The Cameroonian counterpart, Major General Saleh Mahamadou commended MNJTF’s efforts in improving security and fostering economic activities in the Lake Chad Basin. He affirmed that his troops are more than ready to provide any support and collaboration that can leverage the strength of both forces.. 

The Force Commander also paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of the Far North Region of Cameroon Midjiyawa Bakare, where he assured the Governor that there will be a change in the ongoing counter terrorism operation in the Lake Chad Region.

The strengthened partnering marks a pivotal moment in the fight against terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin signalling a unified resolve to restore stability and security for the region’s community
