The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has reiterated the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration towards investing in human capital development as his core priority.
The SGF said that the government remains dedicated to revamping the education and healthcare systems and enhancing social welfare programs to build a healthier, more educated, and empowered populace.
This is just as he debunked the ongoing cry of marginalisation by some socio-political organisations in the region, urging the northern leaders to exercise patience and support President Bola Tinubu to complete two terms of office from 2027 to 2031, so that the North would comfortably take over the affairs of the country by 2031.
Senator Akume made the declaration at the ongoing two-day interactive programme on government-citizen engagement under the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu organised by the Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna on Tuesday.
He further said that improving governance for effective service delivery is the cornerstone of every public policy that is capable of enhancing governance structures that will ensure efficient and transparent service delivery.
Akume emphasised that the current administration is on the path of strengthening institutions, promoting the rule of law, and encouraging civic participation, adding that the objective of this government is to foster a governance model that is responsive, accountable, and effective.
While empasizing on the balanced appointment of northerners from the part of the country and involvement of northerners in the present administration, the SGF said: “I am joined by a strong team of serving Ministers drawn from several critical sectors of governance to espouse the giant strides taken in restoring the socio-economic fortunes of our country in order to drive growth over the past two years of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had promised Nigerians impartiality in governance and a commitment to remodeling our economy, improving security, accelerating infrastructure, job creation and revitalizing agriculture.
“These have been further distilled into eight clearly defined priority areas that reflect the commitment of Government to driving sustainable growth, ensuring security and enhancing the quality of life for all Nigerians.
“The economic reform strategies are designed to create a robust, diversified, and resilient economy. By fostering an environment conducive to investment and innovation, the administration aims to stimulate growth across all sectors, reduce unemployment, and ensure equitable wealth distribution.
“Security is the bedrock of national development. The focus here is on enhancing the capabilities of our security forces, promoting peace and stability, and ensuring that every Nigerian feels safe and protected, no matter where they reside.
“Through reforms, the government is unlocking the potential of Nigeria’s vast natural resources and energy sector. Through sustainable management, increased investments, and the adoption of modern technologies, the goal remains to drive economic growth and ensure environmental sustainability.
“Having laid the necessary background, let me now reflect on these priorities thematically, within the framework of governance and national renewal. The objective is to demonstrate that Renewed Hope Agenda has not merely been a campaign slogan but a pragmatic vision built on the pillars of good governance: transparency, accountability, participation, responsiveness, equity, rule of law, and inclusivity. It is important to expand on some of these issues because as at May 20, 2023, the economy of Nigeria was under severe stress and threats of collapse.”
At the opening of the event in Arewa House, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi called on all the appointees of the Tinubu’s administration fron the northern region to stand before the crowd in the hall for physical assessment.
Malagi said the appointment by Tinubu was just a “flash in the pan, because more are still coming and we will continue to attend your event whether you invite us or not.”
