Kano Council Approves N14.8bn Projects, Ratifies Supplementary Budget

The Kano State Executive Council has approved developmental projects worth ₦14,828,867,679.04 to accelerate growth across the state.

The approvals span health, infrastructure, water supply, and rural development, cutting across multiple ministries.

Briefing journalists after the council meeting, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Ibrahim Waiya said the approvals reflect Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to a people-centred development agenda.

In the Ministry of Works, which received the largest allocation of over ₦11.8 billion, key projects include the conversion of the Gaya Orphanage into a Female Drug Reformatory Institute and the construction of a Transit Centre in Gaya at ₦1.38 billion.

The council also approved the revocation and re-award of the Jaba–Gayawa Road contract at ₦3.75 billion, the revocation and re-award of the dualisation of Dakata–Yadakunya (Bela) Road at ₦6.15 billion, and the construction of Badgery Road to Yusuf Road in Nassarawa LGA at ₦522 million.

The Ministry of Land and Physical Planning received ₦882.9 million, including ₦129 million for the printing of security documents by the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting PLC, and ₦754 million for an expanded scope of work within the ministry.

The Ministry of Health, allocated over ₦1.66 billion, will undertake projects such as the renovation of Sabo Bakin Zuwo Maternity Hospital (Jakara) at ₦364.5 million, upgrades at the School of Health Technology Bebeji at ₦294.5 million, solar energy installations at five maternity facilities at ₦114 million, and the supply of drugs and consumables to major hospitals at ₦112.3 million. Additional works will be carried out at Zakirai PHC and Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

The Ministry of Water Resources received ₦310 million for diesel and PMS supply for February 2025 to sustain water operations.

The Ministry for Rural and Community Development got ₦169.6 million for rehabilitating five mini earth dams in Madobi, Gwarzo, Garun Malam, Kibiya, and Ajingi LGAs.

In a related development, the council ratified a supplementary and amendment budget for 2025 amounting to ₦889.28 billion, an increase of over ₦169.5 billion from the ₦719.76 billion originally approved.

Waiya said the revised budget addresses emerging government priorities and enhances service delivery. The proposal has been forwarded to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage.

Waiya reaffirmed that the projects demonstrate the administration’s determination to rebuild Kano with deliberate investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and rural empowerment.

“These decisions reflect a strategic vision for a better Kano. We urge citizens to stay engaged and vigilant as we work together to achieve progress,” he said.
