VON holds Annual French Drama Competition for Schools

Nigeria’s external Radio station, VON is set to hold the 2021 Annual French Drama Secondary Schools Competition in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Chairman of the organising committee,  Mrs Edith Udo-Udo, who spoke on behalf of the Director General of Voice of Nigeria, VON, Mr Osita Okechukwu, said the event, aimed at encouraging students to learn and speak French as a second language.

Mr Okechukwu said; ”the reason is because Nigeria is surrounded by French speaking countries and there is need to promote the study of French language in Secondary Schools in Nigeria.”

Corporate social responsibility
The DG explained that; ”this was part of VON’s corporate social responsibility to the society and with the  initiative, many students would be interested in learning and speaking French.”

One of the initiators of the VON French Drama Competition, Mr Isaac John, said that over 100 students from seven selected Secondary Schools in Nigeria would participate in the competition after a rigorous screening exercise.

Mr John said the Covid-19 guidelines and protocols would strictly be enforced.

”Five judges from the academia and professionals have been invited to select the best three schools that perform extraordinarily well among the schools,” he stated.

Some of the Secondary Schools that would take part in the competition include; Nakam Memorial school, Jos, Plateau State; Ambassador College, Ogun state; ECWA Secondary School, Nasarawa.

High point of the event would be presentation of trophies to the winners and a cultural night. It would also be graced by Senior Government officials, Diplomats and captains of industries.
