President Bola Tinubu has commended the Awolowo family matriarch for her remarkable legacy and enduring contributions to Nigeria’s social and political life on the occasion of her 10th anniversary.
Describing the Matriarch of Awolowo as more than a wife and mother, but a guiding light for generations of Nigerians, the President in a message posted on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, joined millions of Nigerians in marking the 10th remembrance anniversary of HID Awolowo who passed in 2015.
“Mama HID was more than a wife and mother. She stood beside Chief Obafemi Awolowo through trials and triumphs, carrying his legacy forward with grace and courage. In doing so, she became a mother not only to her family but also a guiding light for generations of Nigerians who drew inspiration from her example, showing what it means to live with faith, discipline, and love for country,” the President stated.
President Tinubu hailed the Awolowo Matriarch as a pillar of courage and dignity, who stood by her late husband, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, preserving and advancing his visionary legacy with exceptional resolve.
He stressed that her life of service and sacrifice continues to inspire the present generation in the quest to build “a just, united, and prosperous Nigeria.”
“Ten years may have passed, but the memory of Mama HID Awolowo remains fresh with deep respect in the heart of our nation,” President Tinubu said, praying that her legacy will continue to live on.
Mrs Awolowo, fondly called the ‘Jewel of inestimable value,’ was well acknowledged by her husband as instrumental to his success.
She lived to the age of 99 and died in 2015, leaving a legacy as a formidable figure who defined a generation through her courage, business acumen, and dedication to public service and family.
