The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has announced that the 5th edition of the Peace Anyiam-Osigwe Nigeria Digital Content Regulatory Conference (PAO NDCRC) will focus on improving content quality and boosting funding opportunities for Nollywood productions.

NFVCB’s Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, said this during an interview with the media in Abuja.

The conference, themed “From Volume to Value: The Future of Nollywood in the Digital Age,” is slated to take place from November 18 to 19 at the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

Dr. Husseini noted that the two-day event will convene key stakeholders, including technology experts, filmmakers, investors, and regulators, to deliberate on strategies for advancing Nollywood in the evolving digital landscape.

He explained that the two-day conference would bring together stakeholders, including tech experts, filmmakers, investors, and regulators, to develop a shared vision for Nollywood in the digital era.

According to him, the forum aims to shift the industry’s focus from sheer output to improved quality, while also providing a platform for stakeholders to explore alternative funding models such as crowdfunding.

“We want to let people know that we have gone past where we only talk in terms of quantity, and so as stakeholders we need to discuss what we are not doing right.”

“We have always sought for either grant or loan, but there are so many other funding models that are available, so we are going to get experts to talk about that.”

“As an agency of government, the board wants our motion picture industry to move from volume to value.

“Already, the Federal Government is playing a very critical role in making sure that we improve on all areas, especially with the Creative Economy Development Fund (CEDF) by our minister, Hannatu Musawa,” he said.

He said the fund aims to boost the creative sector, with stakeholders focusing on improving infrastructure, building studios, and supporting script development.

The NFVCB boss added that the conference would explore how Nollywood can leverage modern technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), in film production and scriptwriting to enhance content quality and sustainability in the digital age.

“Interestingly, I have seen a couple of films where they have tried to apply AI (Artificial Intelligence), so we want to use the conference to look at its opportunities and challenges,” he said.

Husseini said one of the high points of the 2025 POA will be the recognition awards for Nollywood veterans who have contributed to the growth of the industry.
