US Airport Set to Be Renamed after Dolly Parton

Nashville International Airport in Tennessee, United States, is set to be renamed in honour of the country’s late music icon, Dolly Parton.

The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) unanimously approved the proposal in a 6-0 vote on Friday, paving the way for the airport to incorporate Parton’s name and legacy into its identity.

The authority said; “it was consulting relevant stakeholders on the official name of the airport and the most appropriate way to recognise Parton’s contribution to Nashville and the global music industry.”

“While a final name has not yet been determined, we are working closely with the appropriate parties to thoughtfully determine how Dolly Parton’s name and legacy will be incorporated,” the Authority stated.

Parton, a legendary figure in country music, died on August 25 at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer.

Her passing ended a remarkable career that spanned decades and cemented her status as a defining figure in Nashville, the city widely known as the heart of country music.

The proposed airport renaming is expected to serve as a lasting tribute to the singer-songwriter, whose impact reached far beyond music to film, philanthropy and business.

The final name will be decided jointly by airport leaders and the Dollywood Foundation, the nonprofit organisation Parton established in 1988.
