The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that its much-anticipated 2025 National Convention will proceed as scheduled this weekend, dismissing speculations of a postponement as false and mischievous propaganda allegedly sponsored by those who don’t wish the party well.

In a joint statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and the Secretary of the Publicity and Communication Sub-Committee of the National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC), the party stated emphatically that the National Convention will be held on the 15th and 16th of November in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The statement urged party members, delegates, and Nigerians to disregard what it called “baseless rumours and fake news” being circulated by detractors in their desperate bid to derail the event and destabilize the opposition.

“We are aware of the plots by some people to destabilize the opposition and impose a one-party state on Nigerians. Such undemocratic designs will be lawfully resisted,” the statement declared.

According to the NCOC, all necessary arrangements have been finalized to ensure a successful and hitch-free convention that will further strengthen the PDP ahead of future elections.

The committee added that it has been working round the clock to deliver a well-organized and transparent exercise reflective of the party’s internal democracy.

The party said that delegates, leaders, and members from across the country have already begun arriving in Ibadan, expressing optimism that the convention would serve as a unifying platform to consolidate the PDP’s renewed strength and commitment to good governance.

Appreciating Nigerians for their continued faith in the PDP, the NCOC assured them that the Ibadan convention would mark “a defining moment in the party’s quest to rescue and rebuild Nigeria.”
