Soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have neutralised four armed militia members and seized a cache of weapons following a swift response to renewed communal violence in Usmanu Village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The clash erupted from a long‑standing land dispute between the Shomo and Wurkun communities, which escalated into the burning of houses and widespread destruction.
Acting on credible intelligence, 6 Brigade troops were deployed to restore order. Upon arrival, they came under fire from assailants emerging from the Fadama axis.

A statement by the spokesperson of the Brigade, Lt Umar Mohammed said that “the soldiers neutralised the four attackers and recovered;
– Three dane guns
– One fabricated AK‑47 rifle
– Twenty‑five rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition
– Two motorcycles
Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their promptness, bravery and adherence to professional rules of engagement.
He reaffirmed the brigade’s resolve to purge Taraba off criminal elements and maintain operational momentum.
General Uwa assured residents of Karim Lamido and the wider Taraba community of the army’s unwavering commitment to lasting peace and stability.
He urged “the communities to embrace peaceful coexistence and continue providing credible information to security agencies.”
The Nigerian Army urged residents to remain calm and law‑abiding as stability gradually returns.
The Army encouraged Citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest security formation, as operations continue under Operation Peace Shield, Operation Lafiya Nakowa, and Operation Zafin Wuta.
