The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has unveiled a new Load and Outage Analytics platform aimed at improving monitoring, management and reliability of the national transmission network.
The platform, developed in-house by TCN’s Operations Department, was presented and demonstrated at the company’s headquarters in Abuja.
Representing the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, the General Manager, Project Coordination, Aminu Tahir, said the technology would provide greater visibility of the transmission network and support better load management and supply-demand matching.
He identified technical and commercial losses as major concerns affecting the company’s performance, noting that improved grid stability and effective system maintenance could reduce outages and the cost of prolonged interruptions.
Presenting the platform, TCN’s General Manager, Operations, Godwin Afamefuna Aguiyi, said the existing reliability reporting system was affected by fragmented data, manual processes, inconsistent calculation of performance indicators and inadequate audit trails.
He said the new platform would address these challenges by bringing operational data into a unified system capable of generating reliability reports within minutes instead of days.
The 13-module platform provides region, station, transformer and feeder-level analysis, automatically classifies outages and incorporates role-based access and audit trails to improve accountability.
Using July 2026 data as a demonstration, Aguiyi said 3,714 outages were logged nationwide, resulting in 48,603 megawatt-hours of load lost.
He said the Lagos State region accounted for 20,693 megawatt-hours, while 22 feeders exceeded allowable outage hours, with associated losses valued at about 720.33 million naira.
Aguiyi stressed that the figures were based on raw submissions from TCN regional teams and would serve as a basis for cross-referencing with official data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO.

He also explained that the platform incorporates the Fault Attribution Ratio, FAR, to help determine responsibility for service interruptions between TCN and electricity distribution companies.
According to him, the system could also support monitoring of transmission losses if fully deployed alongside appropriate energy measurement devices.
The Operations General Manager recommended nationwide deployment of the platform, integration of Internet of Things IoT) technology for real-time data capture, and upgrades to infrastructure, internet connectivity and monitoring facilities at transmission stations.
The Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Mrs Abiodun Afolabi-Fadahunsi, reaffirmed management’s commitment to providing technical personnel with the tools and resources needed to sustain national grid stability.
She said management was monitoring daily grid reports to identify and address operational challenges in real time.
