The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed a fake Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated video circulating on social media, falsely portraying the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, as making statements in support of partisan political interests.
In a statement, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the video was a deliberate fabrication designed to mislead the public, misrepresent the position of the CDS and undermine the reputation of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
According to the statement, the video did not emanate from General Oluyede, and the comments attributed to him are entirely false and should be disregarded.
“The Defence Headquarters wishes to state unequivocally that the video is fake and did not emanate from the Chief of Defence Staff. The statements attributed to the CDS in the video are false and should be completely disregarded,” the director said.
“The manipulated content was produced using AI technology and appeared intended to deceive the public by creating a false impression of political involvement by the military leadership.”

The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to their constitutional responsibilities, stressing that the military remains a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution dedicated to the defence of Nigeria and the protection of its democratic values.
It also condemned the creation and distribution of the fabricated video, warning individuals involved in producing or knowingly sharing such content to desist immediately.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remains a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution, committed to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the defence of the nation,” the director added.
DHQ urged members of the public to disregard the fabricated video and verify information concerning the Armed Forces only through its official communication channels, including its verified Facebook, X, Instagram, WhatsApp and YouTube platforms.
