Sokoto Government Approves Budget Framework, Upgrades Key Facilities

The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved the state’s Medium-Term Expenditure Framework for 2026, estimated at ₦702,555,758,424.

The approval was announced by the state’s Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Abubakar Zayyana, while briefing journalists after the council meeting held at the Government House.

Dr. Zayyana said the framework outlines the state’s revenue projections, macroeconomic assumptions and spending priorities, ensuring transparency, accountability and participatory governance in the budget preparation process.

Also, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Wurno, said the council approved contracts for the second phase of hospital renovation and remodelling across the state.

He listed the contract awards for six additional hospitals as follows:

•Yabo General Hospital – ₦290,138,765.60

•Shagari General Hospital – ₦382,402,397.00

•Sabon Birni General Hospital – ₦237,189,241.19

•Tangaza General Hospital – ₦272,291,859.26

•Goronyo General Hospital – ₦291,307,701.20

•WCWC Hospital, Sokoto – ₦187,998,719.56

Dr. Wurno said that the government also approved the procurement of HIV kits and related medical supplies worth over ₦100 million to sustain ongoing health interventions.

He said the projects are aimed at improving healthcare delivery by providing better facilities and equipment for patients across the state.

At the briefing, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Alhaji Sambo Bello Danchadi, announced additional approvals, including the procurement of laptops and computers under the State Universal Basic Education programme at ₦72,604,300, as well as textbooks and exercise books valued at ₦113,148 for distribution to schools.

He further disclosed approvals for the construction of drainage from Zagga to Jaredi Road in the Gawon Nama area at ₦122,755,230.94, and a concrete drainage along Orthopaedic Hospital in Wamakko Local Government Area at ₦216,619,541.25.

According to him, the council also approved the general upgrade and repairs of the Waziri Junaidu History and Culture Bureau at a cost of ₦287,569,168.75, aimed at preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage.

He said the series of approvals demonstrate the state government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare, education, infrastructure and cultural preservation.
