Foundation Empowers Women, Youths in Taraba State

The Sarauniyya Aishatu Baju (SAB) Foundation has held an Empowerment Programme in Gembu, Taraba State, a commitment to women’s empowerment, education, health, and livestock development.

The Foundation unveiled fresh interventions, including support for 300 vulnerable women, educational assistance for 200 less-privileged children, hygiene support for 200 teenage girls, vaccination of 100,000 cattle against Lumpy Skin Disease and 10,000 goats against PPR, and a football tournament finals for youths.

Delivering a keynote address, Founder and President of the Foundation,  Dr. Aishatu Abubakar Baju, who is also the wife of the Emir of Mambilla described the programme as “more than a ceremonial event.”

She said it represents “a celebration of impact, a reaffirmation of shared responsibility, and a renewed commitment to uplifting lives and strengthening our communities.”

She emphasised that sustainable development is achieved “when compassion meets action and when leadership is measured by service.

Protecting livelihoods

According to Dr. Baju, since its establishment, the SAB Foundation has focused on empowering women, protecting livelihoods, supporting education, promoting health, and fostering peace.

She outlined key achievements, including the distribution of 10,000 boiler birds to over 1,000 vulnerable women, poultry and life-skills training for 120 women, educational support for more than 1,000 school children, and the provision of 15 grinding machines to women entrepreneurs.

Other interventions include free medical screenings for diabetes, malaria, typhoid, and cervical cancer; the distribution of 700 reusable sanitary kits to teenage girls; the provision of 300 corrective glasses to persons with visual impairments; mass livestock vaccinations; and youth engagement through football competitions.

Speaking, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, commended the initiative, describing it as an example of selfless service.

This is true leadership, Leadership that calls us to sacrifice, leadership that calls us to empathy, leadership that calls us to support the less privileged. I am happy she has taken it upon herself, though she is not compelled to do so to voluntarily do this,” he said.

Teenage girls’ hygiene

Support to address Menstrual period poverty also came from the Taraba State Government, as the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Gebon Kataps, donated 5,000 reusable sanitary towels and proposed a dedicated fund for teenage girls’ hygiene.

He stated, “… we have failed to look at this vulnerable group of children in our society that may one day become even Inspector General of Police, may oneday become governors of the state who needs us to support them and so I dedicate this award to them. I will liase with you immediately to produce 5000 pieces and share them before the end of January ”

Similarly, the Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Area, Mohammed Umar, also praised the Foundation, and commended the founder AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju saying, “your compassion speaks louder than words and your legacy will live on in the lives you have helped and shared.”

Food security

The SAB Foundation also presented awards of appreciation to supporters and unveil its 2026–2030 vision, targeting expanded empowerment, improved community health systems, and strengthened livestock and food security across Nigeria and beyond.

The event attracted traditional rulers, government officials, security agencies, professional bodies, development partners, and community leaders, including His Majesty, Dr. Shehu Audu Baju II, Emir of Mambilla; traditional leaders of the Mambilla Plateau; representatives of the Nigeria Police Force; officials of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria; local government chairpersons; faith leaders; and donors.
