The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has participated in activities of India International Conference on Democracy and Election Management (IICDEM).

The conference provided an opportunity for Professor Amupitan to engage with other electoral management bodies from across the world on strategies for strengthening electoral processes and deepening democratic governance.

Nigeria’s electoral body, INEC, has in recent years implemented several strategic reforms aimed at improving the country’s electoral system—innovations which have attracted interest from both regional and international partners.

A major highlight of the day was the launch of ECINET, a unified digital platform available on both mobile and web interfaces.

The platform is designed to enhance citizen engagement and participation in the electoral process of the world’s largest democracy.

ECINET integrates all major election-related services into a single, secure system, connecting citizens, candidates, political parties, and election officials.

In his keynote address, India’s Chief Election Commissioner, Mr. Gyanesh Kumar, described ECINET as the product of India’s long-standing electoral evolution.

He explained that the platform consolidates more than 40 existing election-related applications used by the Election Commission of India into one comprehensive digital ecosystem, thereby improving efficiency, transparency, and accessibility.

Earlier in the day, Professor Amupitan also held a meeting with the Secretary-General of International IDEA, Dr. Kevin Casas-Zamora, who expressed the organisation’s interest in partnering with INEC in key areas of election management and democratic development.
