The Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has called on Nigerians, particularly those in the North, to consider national unity and the principle of power rotation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yari made the appeal while speaking with journalists in Kano North West Nigeria, where he said Nigeria’s political development required mutual understanding among the different regions.
He argued that having a Southerner at the helm of affairs after several years of Northern leadership should be viewed within the broader context of maintaining balance and strengthening national cohesion.

According to him, the North has had significant opportunities to lead the country since independence and should allow President Bola Tinubu to complete his second term, while expecting power to return to the region through the established political arrangement.
Yari said the approach would provide an opportunity for the present administration to consolidate its programmes and complete ongoing projects across the country.
He also cautioned against judging governments solely on the basis of regional identity, saying economic difficulties, insecurity and other challenges affect countries across the world.
The APC chieftain urged Nigerians to assess the administration using economic and developmental indicators, including the state of the nation’s reserves, inflation and other key indices.
He acknowledged that successive governments had faced challenges and that no administration could solve all national problems within a short period.
Yari further appealed to political leaders and citizens to prioritise peace and development, stressing that Nigeria’s diversity requires cooperation rather than regional rivalry.
He said the country’s political leadership should continue to reflect a sense of fairness among its component regions, expressing the view that power would eventually return to the North after the completion of the South’s expected tenure.
The former Zamfara governor urged Northerners to support national unity and work with other regions towards building a more peaceful and economically stable Nigeria.
