Gombe NUJ Hails Ex FUK VC, Professor Pate

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Gombe State Council, has congratulated Professor Umaru A. Pate on the successful completion of his tenure as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere.

The statement, signed by the Chairman of the NUJ Gombe State Council, Mr Faruk Mu’azu Gombe, the Council commended Professor Pate’s leadership and commitment to academic excellence, describing his tenure as transformative for the institution and the wider educational sector.

Mr. Mu’azu described Professor Pate as a distinguished scholar and communication expert, credited with steering the university through a period of significant growth.

Notable Progress

According to the NUJ, the Federal University, Kashere recorded notable progress in infrastructure development, expansion of academic programmes and increased research output under his stewardship.

The Council said the achievements had strengthened the university’s standing as a centre of intellectual advancement in the North-East and beyond.

It further praised Professor Pate for promoting integrity, discipline and innovation within the university community.

The Chairman of the Gombe NUJ, noted that his administration was marked by inclusivity and transparency and as a sustained drive to enhance educational standards and institutional reputation.

Beyond his administrative role, Professor Pate was described as a mentor and role model to students, academics and media professionals. The Council highlighted his longstanding contributions to communication studies in Nigeria, stating that his work continues to influence and inspire emerging scholars and practitioners,” Mr. Mu’azu said.

The statement also acknowledged his efforts to strengthen collaboration between the university and the media.

As Professor Pate steps down, the Council expressed confidence that his experience and expertise would continue to benefit the nation in other capacities, describing his legacy at the Federal University, Kashere as a testament to visionary leadership and academic excellence.

The NUJ urged the incoming Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Inuwa Ja’afaru, to build upon the foundation laid by his predecessor, citing Professor Pate’s service, dedication and humility as a model for purposeful leadership.
