Easter: CDS Urges Faith, Media Partnership for National Security

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has called for renewed faith, unity, and responsible media partnership as critical pillars for national security.

He stated this while delivering an Easter message to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Represented by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, the CDS commended the NUJ for organising the Easter programme themed “Resurrection Power: Grace, Faith, Hope and New Life”.

He described Easter as the cornerstone of the Christian faith, symbolising the triumphs of life over death, truth over falsehood, and hope over despair.

He noted that the message of resurrection resonates with Nigeria’s current realities, as the nation continues to confront security challenges and socio-economic pressures.

Drawing parallels with the journey from Calvary to the empty tomb, he stressed that trials are temporary and renewal is possible through faith and unity.

The Defence Chief highlighted the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, stating that troops across all regions remain resolute in defending the nation’s sovereignty.

He said, “Their efforts in combating terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and other threats have helped restore stability in affected communities.”

According to him, the sacrifices of military personnel have enabled displaced persons to return home, schools to reopen, and economic activities to resume, describing these developments as practical reflections of “resurrection power” in action.

General Oluyede also stressed the crucial role of the media in national security, noting that accurate and responsible journalism helps counter misinformation, strengthen public trust, and promote unity.

He described journalists as indispensable partners in peacebuilding and assured continued military-media collaboration.

He further called on Nigerians to embrace reconciliation, provide credible intelligence, and support security agencies, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.

The CDS paid tribute to fallen heroes and urged prayers for troops, expressing confidence that with unity, faith, and cooperation, Nigeria will overcome its challenges and achieve lasting peace and stability.
