The Bishop of the Diocese of Kwara, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Dr Sunday Adewole has called on Nigerians to return to godly living, love and unity as Christians celebrate the 2026 Easter season across the country.

Delivering his Easter message at the Cathedral of Saint Barnabas, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin, the cleric said the resurrection of Jesus Christ remains a strong reminder of victory over sin and death, urging citizens to reflect its lessons in their daily lives and in efforts to rebuild the nation.

Speaking on the theme, “The Empty Tomb and Its Implications”, Adewole noted that Easter should not be regarded as a mere annual celebration but as a time for sober reflection and renewed commitment to God.

“Today, as we commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we appeal to everyone in the name of God to live a holy life. Living a holy life is a precursor to God’s abundant blessings,” he said.

The bishop stressed that righteous living must be complemented by love for one another and a sense of responsibility towards national development, urging Nigerians to intensify prayers for the country and promote peaceful coexistence.

“We should love our neighbours, pray for our country, pray for our state, pray for our communities, and love others as ourselves. If we do this, the challenges we face will become things of the past,” he added.

Adewole attributed many of Nigeria’s socio-economic and security problems to a decline in moral and spiritual values, noting that a renewed fear of God could help address issues such as corruption, violence and insecurity.

“If Nigerians truly embrace the fear of God, issues such as corruption, violence, banditry and insurgency will be drastically reduced,” he stated.

He also warned against disunity, describing it as a major obstacle to national progress, while calling for stronger bonds across religious and ethnic divides.

“No nation can progress in disunity. We must come together as one people if we are to confront our challenges effectively,” he said.

In the face of economic hardship, the cleric urged Nigerians to show compassion by supporting the less privileged and being proactive in meeting the needs of others.

“We must not wait until we are asked before helping others. Let us be intentional in offering our time, talents and resources to support those around us,” he advised.

Offering prayers for the nation, Adewole expressed hope that the power of Christ’s resurrection would bring healing and transformation to Nigeria.

“It is our prayer that the power that brought Jesus out of the grave will work in our nation, in our families, and bring the needed miracles,” he prayed.

He encouraged citizens to remain hopeful, insisting that with faith, unity and obedience to God, Nigeria can overcome its present challenges and achieve peace and prosperity.
