By Hudu Yakubu, Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the promotion of 3,592 civil servants following the successful completion of the 2025 promotion exercise conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission.

The approval, announced by the Chairman of the Commission, Emeka Ezeh, is part of the FCT Administration’s efforts to strengthen staff welfare and career development while sustaining reforms in the territory’s civil service.

Ezeh said the promotion exercise was conducted in accordance with established civil service procedures, with senior officers sitting for their examinations from 1 to 3 July, while junior officers took theirs on 10 July.

He commended Wike for providing the necessary support that enabled the commission to carry out its statutory responsibilities efficiently and without interruption.

According to him, the minister has also directed the immediate commencement of the 2026 promotion exercise to ensure that eligible officers are considered for advancement promptly.

“The administration is committed to ensuring that FCT workers are promoted as and when due. While the government continues to transform the nation’s capital through massive infrastructure development, equal attention is being given to the welfare and career progression of the workforce,” Ezeh said.

He noted that the directive underscores the administration’s resolve to complement ongoing infrastructural development with improved staff motivation and productivity.

Ezeh also praised civil servants for their orderly conduct throughout the 2025 promotion exercise and urged prospective candidates for the 2026 exercise to maintain the same level of discipline and professionalism.

He further acknowledged the cooperation of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), describing its support as instrumental to the successful conduct of the exercise.

The commission chairman advised officers preparing for the 2026 promotion exercise to begin early, stressing that promotion in the FCT Civil Service remains merit-based, competitive, and subject to the availability of vacancies.
