Afghanistan Cracks Down on Narcotics, Destroys 100kg of Drugs

Afghanistan’s counter-narcotics Police have destroyed more than 100 kilogrammes of illegal drugs in the eastern part of the country, as authorities intensify a nationwide crackdown on narcotics.

The drugs were publicly incinerated in Khost Province, according to the provincial director for counter-narcotics, Qari Wahidullah Matawakil.

Officials said “the seized substances included hashish, heroin, opium poppy, and thousands of stimulant tablets locally referred to as “Tablet K,” though no further operational details were disclosed.

Matawakil warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals involved in the production and trafficking of illicit drugs, stressing that “such activities would not be tolerated in the province.”

The development comes amid renewed efforts by the Afghan government to curb drug production and trafficking nationwide. In recent months, security forces have destroyed hundreds of acres of poppy fields and incinerated several tonnes of illegal substances across the country.
